About STEAM SCOIL

STEAM SCOIL was set up in 2019 by Kathleen Gallagher to help inspire children and teachers through the provision of fun STEM activities that incorporates art and creativity. Based in North West Donegal, she provides introductory and project based workshops with a view to encouraging the 21st century skills - communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking - in an innovative and fun environment.

Education and Experience

Kathleen is a former youth and community worker with 15 years experience tutoring early school leavers. She has a first class Hons degree in Youth and Community Development, a Certificate in Digital Creativity and a Certificate in Digital Media.

She has worked as a Creative Cluster facilitator with schools since 2019 - assisting schools communicate and collaborate to bring their creative ideas to fruition. She is also TAP (Teacher/Artist Partnership) trained and is a registered artist for the BLAST programme.

She has worked with Cruinniú na NÓg. Wainfest, Meet and Code to provide STEAM activities to children and Young people around the Donegal county.

Project based learning

For those looking for extended learning; Kathleen offers project based workshops that encourages a design thinking approach. She will liaise with the school to develop a tailor made project based on their needs and resources. 

Previous projects have included:

  • Digital Animation using Scratch to tell the local Myths and Legends

  • Makey Makey Game design and coding

  • Microbit well-being and game design

  • Building a sustainable city with electric cars, well-being gardens and battery operated windmills
